The January Package

Heavy snow is coming down. It's blowing into drifts that prevent the car door from being opened at curbside outside our apartment. It was at this moment late in the evening of January 23, 1972 that Vicki announced it was time to head for the hospital to have our second child. I can't clear the snow quickly, eh, ok, ah, how about you walk to the corner (about 15 yards away) where the sidewalk is cleared and I'll pick you up there. At this point Vicki gave me a look that suggested the question, "why didn't God design men to have children?"

In the early morning hours of January 24, the next member came bouncing into our family. In her first few years she gained the nickname "Tigger" for her tendency to come flying into a room, knocking over a lamp or two, pushing her brother aside, with a large smile on her face, to show us an old something-or-other she found in the yard.

Today she is married to Phil Addler with Katie, Jack, and Maddie to fill out the family. Phil would probably agree that their kids periodically take on some "Tigger tendencies." Sorry about that, Phil.

All three kids also exhibit the same love, kindness, and respect of the their parents that Vicki and I asked of our kids

Happy Birthday Chels, I hope your next 40 years are as happy for you as the last 40 has been for us.

The video, with the help of Stevie Wonder, suggests that no matter how old and successful daughters become, to some fathers they'll always be little girls.
